![]() ![]() Walter’s team mostly gathers information and executes Thom’s plan to break into the Bank of Spain’s vault, which is protected by Gustavo and a complicated security device that, once triggered, floods the bank’s basement. There’s hothead man of action James ( Sam Riley), cocky computer hacker Klaus ( Axel Stein), jaded pickpocket Lorraine ( Astrid Bergès-Frisbey), and flamboyant “acquisitions” expert Simon ( Luis Tosar). He’s given one by Walter, who’s already assembled a motley crew of heist movie clichés. Like most super-smart science types, Thom is an idealist who loves a challenge. If you’re wondering if you’ll like this film, take a look at its dramatis personae, starting with “the mastermind,” as one character calls him: Thom ( Freddie Highmore), a super-intelligent and highly sought after engineering student. Most of its characters are defined not only by their roles in Walter’s team, but also the tics and quirks that have come to define those roles in a variety of other heist movies, some better than others. Then again, a familiarity with movies like “The Vault” is probably why you might watch it in the first place. You’ve probably seen movies like “The Vault” before, only set in another country, and featuring a lot less exposition. ![]() (Walter initially recovered this bounty from the bottom of a Spanish shipwreck, but his booty was soon taken by the Spanish authorities.) Most of the plot is strictly formulaic: Walter and his fellow crew members scheme over building plans and computer monitors, improvise and double-cross each other whenever appropriate, and are often chased by Gustavo ( Jose Coronado), an ill-tempered ex-military security officer. “The Vault” is consequently a paint-by-numbers caper about a crew of hard-working amateur bank robbers, who, under the leadership of blue collar salvage expert Walter ( Liam Cunningham), chase after a chest of 17 th century gold coins. The film from director Jaume Balagueró is not the first recent caper to feature the Bank of Spain-there’s also the ongoing Netflix series “Money Heist,” which debuted in 2017-and that’s sort of the problem: the makers of “The Vault” don’t seem to know how to show off the Bank of Spain, or any of their movie’s other potentially attractive features. Again, there is not much known about the plot of the series, but the events of the series will take place on Earth before the original 1979 Alienmovie.A good location isn’t worth much in the Spanish heist movie “ The Vault,” which is mostly set in or around Madrid’s historic Bank of Spain building. In addition to this, things have been moving forward quickly with the Alien TV show currently being worked on for FX, which comes from Fargo’s Noah Hawley and recently cast Sydney Chandler in the lead role. Although there are very few details known about the movie so far, Alvarez teased fans with a shot of the set of the new spaceship that will be playing host to the latest incarnation of the Xenomorphs. On the movie front, Fede Alvarez, who directed the 2013 reboot of Evil Dead and Don’t Breathe, is helming what will be the next instalment of the film series. ![]() Now there are two new Alien projects waiting in the wings, and they both come with quite a bit of expectation. While there was a lot of speculation, and ridicule, over Disney becoming the owners of the Alien and Predator franchises, the arrival of Prey settled the unjustified claims that the franchises would be dumbed down and “kiddie-fied” as part of the Disney family. Speaking on the Perfect Organism Podcast, Izzo explained: While there has never been any mention of the animated show from Disney, the success of Prey and upcoming Alien projects could be enough to spur them into releasing the new series sometime in the future. However, it seems that there is another project that brings the two iconic space monsters back together that has been sitting completed in Disney’s vaults for a while now in the form of an anime series.Īs revealed by Joshua Izzo, the former 20th Century Fox licensing director, a 10-part anime series was fully completed before the Disney take over of Fox and is now just sitting collecting dust. Since then, Prey has rejuvenated the Predator series and a new Alien movie and series are in the works. Among those were the Alien and Predatorfranchises, and it caused a bit of a stir at the time for the House of Mouse to be taking over the iconic franchises. When The Walt Disney Company became the proud owners of 20th Century Fox, they inherited many big IPs.
